How to download and open a file on your mobile device?
In this article, we will tell you how to download a file from a computer to a mobile device in online or offline mode and then open it in the CarryMap app.
eLiteMap mobile application supports such data formats as GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, SHP, GPX, and allows you to work with maps in CMF2 format. When importing data in GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, SHP, GPX formats, the data is converted to GPKG format on-the-fly.
If you have files on your computer that you want to work with in the eLiteMap mobile app, you should transfer them from your PC to your mobile device. There are a few options for downloading file to smartphone or tablet.
- Being online you can download the file from the messenger, file hosting or email. Let’s consider the use case with the file hosting.
- Select the file, press the ‘Download’ button and if necessary, confirm the action.
- After downloading the file, press the notice about the successful completion and go to the list of downloaded files in the browser.
- Click on the downloaded file and select the eLiteMap from the list of programs available to open the file.
- Well done! The file will be opened on your device.
- If no Internet is available, connect your device to your computer via USB cable and download the file from computer to smartphone or tablet. To download the file to iOS device, use iTunes.
For Android device
- Connect your Android device to your computer via USB.
- Go to the data folder on your computer and copy the file.
- Go to the connected mobile device and paste the file into the eLiteMap app folder.
- Open the CarryMap app, the copied map file will be in the ‘My maps’ tab, the copied data in GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, SHP, GPX format will be in the ‘Data’ tab.
Note that, the location of the app folder depends on the OS version of your Android device – for devices with version 10 and below the eLiteMap folder is located in the backend storage of the device, and for devices with version 11 and above, in the app's system folder (Android/data/com.dataeast.carrymap/files/CarryMap).
For iOS device
- Connect your iOS device to your computer via USB.
- Launch the iTunes app. Press the device button at the upper left of the iTunes window.
- Press ‘Files Sharing’, select eLiteMap app in the appeared list on the left and press ‘Add File’.
- Select the file that you need to share and press ‘Open’. The file is on your iOS device.
Open the eLiteMap app, the copied map file will be in the ‘My maps’ tab, the copied data in GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, SHP, GPX format will be in the ‘Data’ tab.
